Spying in High Heels by Gemma Halliday

As most of you already know, I am a bookworm. Reading and writing are my passion, you can say that I am a frustrated novelist, I have all these great ideas for a book but I don’t have the discipline required to put them into coherent words on a page.

I read books to escape from stress. This past few weeks have been really stressful for me, like you wouldn’t believe, so I devoted an entire day just to reading. When I have finished reading Breaking Dawn for the nth time, I remembered I have downloaded all these e-books on iBooks on my iPhone and so I decided to browse my library and read some of the books I have already downloaded.

I still prefer reading from a real book, but the first e-book I read was so awesome, I didn’t even mind reading it on my iPhone.

The book I am talking about is by Gemma Halliday called Spying in High Heels, it is the first book in the High Heels Series.

L.A. shoe designer, Maddie Springer, lives her life by three rules: Fashion. Fashion. Fashion. But when she stumbles upon the work of a brutal killer, her life takes an unexpected turn from Manolos to murder. And things only get worse when her boyfriend disappears – along with $20 million in embezzled funds – and her every move is suddenly under scrutiny by the LAPD’s sexiest cop. With the help of her post-menopausal bridezilla of a mother, a 300 pound psychic and one seriously oversexed best friend, Maddie finds herself stepping out of her stilettos and onto the trail of a murderer. But can she catch a killer before the killer catches up to her… – Excerpt from iBooks.

You can download the e-book for free on iBooks for Apple (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch), Kindle and Nook.

I loved the characters and I love the plot, it was definitely an entertaining book. I found myself reading it all the way through and did not put it down until I was finished. It was engaging and definitely the kind of books I would love to read over and over again. It was fun, it was funny, it was sad, it was confusing, it was sexy and oh so entertaining! I am going to buy the rest of the High Heel Series because I cannot wait to read more about Maddie Springer and I am so dying to find out how her love life turned out after the first book.

SPOILER ALERT:

Maddie Springer’s lawyer boyfriend, Richard, suddenly disappears after a suspicious man came to visit him in his office, without saying a word to her. She sets off to find him only to find out that he was involved in a money laundering scheme with one of his clients. The suspicious man she saw in his office when they were supposed to have lunch was a detective named Jack Ramirez. She is convinced that Richard is innocent and sets off to find him by following the detective. She follows him in a lavish home, only to find out that it is the house of Richard’s client’s wife. The woman was found dead in the pool by Ramirez and Maddie. They call it in and she is still convinced that Richard is innocent and that the culprit was probably Richard’s client who has gone greedy and killed his wife so he can have all the money to himself. She snoops around Richard’s office where she finds files of Richard’s bills, it turns out he is not the person she thought he was and was buried in debt and then later on Ramirez tells her that Richard is married. Then the phone in Richard’s office rang and she answered it on impulse, quickly regretting she had, it was his client and he also appears to have no idea of where Richard is. She asks the friendlier secretary, Althea for help in tracing the call. They trace it to a roach motel. So Maddie and her best friend, Dana, dress up as hookers and try to interrogate Richard’s client, but when they were about to knock on his door they heard gun shots and both of them ran away as fast as they could without looking back. Ramirez found out and called her in. She later found out that Richard’s client is also dead now and that Richard is now an official suspect. Ramirez tells her to go home while he takes care of the investigation and the hunt for Richard. She refuses and follows Ramirez. Ramirez knew she was still following him, too bad because he was really off to see his mother and that he was already off duty. He caught her spying on him again and asked her to come with him. Maddie thought that they were going to interrogate someone and she found out it was his mother’s house. She was still in her hooker clothes and was ashamed as she was introduced to the whole family of Jack Ramirez. She and Ramirez connected and Ramirez’ mom likes her already and they have already connected, and she found herself falling for Ramirez but was overcome with guilt because of Richard and her late period suggests she might be pregnant with Richard’s child.

Phew! What a mess!

One night she was attacked in her apartment and was hit on the head, she had to stay with Dana for a couple of days because she received a death threat telling her to stop proving that Richard is innocent. Which only makes her want to find Richard more and prove his innocence. Then on her mother’s bridal shower, she got so drunk, but Ramirez was suddenly there for her, they were supposed to get it on but then Ramirez spotted the pregnancy test and backed out, she got hysterical and cried and fell asleep on his arms. It was her mother’s wedding the next day and she was running late, Ramirez offered to give her a ride and ended up being her date. They were obviously hitting it off but then in the reception, she bumped into Richard, who was hiding in the hotel where her mother’s wedding reception was. She went up to his room to talk about what happened. Ramirez followed them and arrested Richard. She was convinced it wasn’t Richard and that he was framed. So she thought about all the clues and went back to Richard’s office to do more spying, she stumbled upon a file on the assistant’s computer but she thought that the blonde bombshell could not have pulled it off because she just was not that smart, it turns out it was Althea, the assistant who framed Richard and killed his client and the wife. She would have called Ramirez, but Althea was suddenly there, with a gun to her head. They fight, she was shot, Althea was strangling her, she reached for her stilletos and stabbed Althea, she wasn’t hurt, but Maddie did manage to pop one of her silicone breast implants, who would have thought the geeky assistant had implants. Turns out she holds a grudge with Richard’s client because he slept with her, she thought it was love but it turns out he just used her, so when she found out about the embezzlement scheme between Richard and his client, she decided to take the money, kill Richard’s client and the wife and frame Richard for it. Ramirez arrived at the scene with back up and locks up Althea. Richard is set free on bail but will still face embezzlement charges pending a hearing.

So who does she choose?

She finally decided to take the pregnancy test.

That’s all I’m going to write down, you’d have to download the book if you want to find out what happened. It’s FREE so get it on iBooks, Kindle or Nook today!
